The History Of St. Mary Freewill Baptist Church

The Freewill Baptist Church in Moultrie, Georgia was founded by the Reverend O.C. Fluellen in 1953 who was employed by Beadles and Justice Lumber Company. The boss man, Joe Justice, was a Deacon at East Side Baptist Church. Mr. Justice informed Reverend Fluellen of an empty house he could use to hold his services. Reverend Fluellen conducted his first meeting with the assistance of Brother Jack Moore, Mablean, Doretha, and Almeter. Reverend Fluellen's spoken word encouraged many to become part of his organization. Choirs were formed under the leadership of Sister Cleo Fluellen, Sister Lola Jamerson and Sister Doretha Moore. Reverend Fluellen remained faithful to his calling until his homegoing in 1987.

Reverend J.C. Smith took the reigns for one year. Reverend J.P. Shuman served as Pastor March 30, 1988 until August 12, 1991. Many souls were saved and the church was prosperous.

The Lord directed Reverend Jackie & Wanda Hargrow to the church in 2022. The Deacons are: Claude Holmes, and William Ivey. Reverend Hargrow preached his first sermon on January 6, 2022 and was officially installed as Pastor on February 27, 2022. Reverend George Sanders was sent to assist. During this time, Wednesday night Bible Study attendance has equaled Sunday morning Worship Service.

The active members are Mother Evelyn Pollard, Mary Davis, Sisters Esther, Precious, Avagene, Marci, Ellouise, Sarah, Evelyn, Daisy, Tenular, and Margaret. Brothers Russell, Wesley and Rommie. Another soul (Sanyree) has been added by baptism. We will continue our motto: Working together works with many community events planned during the year. The symbols of the FWBC are the ship, the fish, the anchor and the cross.
